We look forward to welcoming you to KSS. To help you to prepare for your arrival, we have put together some useful about what to do before you arrive and what to expect on your arrival.

Welcome meeting

We will schedule an induction meeting with you on arrival to go over key points and to answer any questions.

Our accommodation will be open from midday on Monday 6th September 2021. You must book an arrival slot with the Accommodation Team for the date and time of your arrival to ensure we can manage the arrival in a COVID-secure way.

When planning your journey please note that check in times are between 07:00 and 22:00 only. You must speak with us to plan your arrival before confirming your flights.

Please send us your travel details by emailing the teams at Tripos Court or at Malta Road.

Quarantine and COVID-19 Test

On arrival in the UK you will be required to take a day 2 Covid-19 test (for green and amber list countries). Students testing all clear will be able to move around within their flat - if they are subject to UK government amber list quarantine - or move around more freely if they are not.

If you are required to undertake quarantine for 10 days on arrival, please plan for this bringing any essentials including medication needed with you.

What to bring with you

The weather in the UK is changeable, so please bring appropriate clothing for all weathers during your stay. Good quality waterproof clothes are also essential for when the weather turns wet in the winter months.

Adaptor plug

Any electrical item will need a 3-pin fused plug to work in the UK. Remember to bring a suitable adaptor for hairdryers, phone/laptop chargers, etc. UK sockets use 240v mains power so please check that your electrical items will work on this voltage. We will need to check your adaptors to make sure these comply with UK safety regulations.

It will be useful to make sure that you have some British Pounds (GBP) with you on arrival to cover any urgent purchases. Please note that the College will be able to provide a letter of introduction so that you can quickly open a UK bank account once term has started.

Medicine and toiletries

Please make sure you have any essential or prescribed medication with you, as well as any of your preferred brand of toiletries.

Bed linen and towels

These will be provided in your room for the duration of your stay.

Kitchen utensils

Your will have access to a kitchen which is equipped with a microwave, fridge and oven. We will provide essential equipment (plates, cutlery, saucepans etc) which you may wish to supplement once you have settled in.

Getting to Cambridge

By Taxi

We ask that you travel from the airport directly to your residence. You should ensure that the Taxi is COVID secure (regularly sanitised, driver wearing a mask) and that you wear a fresh mask for your journey. Your guardian can arrange an airport collection for you which should be booked at least three days in advance.

Taxis from Heathrow / Gatwick to Cambridge will cost between £140 - £200 when booked in advance. Taxis from London Stansted will be less.

If you would like KSS to arrange your travel please contact us at least five days in advance so that we can provide an accurate quote.

Jessica, Taiwan
Tracey is really nice. She asks about my school life every day, and my social life as well. She remembers my personal habits and cares about what I like to eat and what I don’t. We often have Chinese food and she takes me out for dinner on weekends as well.
Johnny, South Korea
They are easy to talk to. When I first arrived here everything was awkward but it did not last that long to be honest. They are friendly and it almost feels like I have lived here for years.
Mark, UK
They were very welcoming when I first arrived and made me feel at home. Since then, they have cooked for me every night and washed my clothes every week which has allowed me to enjoy my year in Cambridge.
Alina, Kazakhstan
I feel like I am part of the family as my host family always shows interest by asking about my day and having friendly and polite conversations. Helen also helps me with room cleaning.
